OVERVIEW OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Catholic Charities is charged by the Diocese of Beaumont to defend and insure the preservation of human dignity. Inspired by the social teachings of the Church, we strive to improve the lives of those individuals and families who utilize our services, by recognizing and addressing the evolving needs of our society. It is our vision to achieve a universal community that is stronger physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, willing and empowered to care for the needs of all its members.

Services of Catholic Charities are available in most counties comprising the territory of the Diocese of Beaumont: Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Chambers, Jasper, Liberty, Newton, Polk, and Tyler.  Catholic Charities provides services to individuals and families regardless of their religious beliefs.

Catholic Charities currently operates 8 programs:

• Asset Building Case Management (ABC)
• Child Care Contractor Services (CCCS)
• Counseling Services
• Disaster Trauma and Loss Unit, including:
  • Elijah’s Place - Grief Support Services
  • Disaster Response
• Hospitality Center (Soup Kitchen)
• Immigration Services
• Parish Social Ministry

As the people of Haiti suffer in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas unites with them in prayer. We also are following the lead of Catholic Charities USA which urges all who wish to lend immediate support to that nation's recovery efforts to support the relief efforts of Catholic Relief Services, the Church's agency for international disaster response. Financial aid may be offered to Catholic Relief Services by calling 1-800-736-3467, by visiting their website at www.crs.org.

Also, the State Department has established a toll free phone number for use by U.S. citizens who may be trying to locate family members in Haiti. That phone number is 1-888-407-4747.
